‘Bapuji Samadarshan Yatra’ a mammoth programme was launched on
2nd October 2004, to meet natives of 550 villages for gaining first hand knowledge of their needs & requirements. The main motive behind this venture was to revoke Bapuji’s ideals among the younger generation in our community & to revive ‘Indiramma Palana’ in Haritaandhra Pradesh as per Congress Party’s election manifesto.
Commencing on 2nd October 2004 commemorating ‘Jatipita’ Bapuji’s 135th Jayanthi, the yatra continued for 44 long days ending on 14th November 2004. Sri Rajagopal toured all the 50 Divisions in Vijayawada besides covering more than 500 villages in all the 19 Semi Urban & Rural Mandals of Vijayawada Parliamentary Constituency.
Starting from his office everyday before dawn at 5.30 a.m., he used to return back every night only around 11 p.m after touring without break the whole day. He had incessantly visited the villages & hamlets overseeing the conditions of schools, primary health centers, lift irrigation projects etc in the rural regions. He would meet individuals division wise in each village listening patiently to their requests. Later he would come back to the office & ponder over various schemes & methods to resolve & minimize people’s problems.
Finding alternative house sites for the urban BPL segment & arranging water facilities for the people in hill regions have always been issues close to his heart. Towards this end he had communicated with the local authorities & the Chief Minister several times on various occasions for finding permanent solutions to the BPL natives of Vijayawada.
To meet people from all segments & see their living conditions personally, Sri Rajagopal has strived undeterred for 44 consecutive days, which no other MP in the country has done so far. He is determined to diminish various hardships faced by people in relevance with water, protected drinking water, drainages & sewerages, pensions for widows & freedom fighters, National Family Benefit Schemes, Students' loans, housing allotment under Rural Permanent Housing / Indira Awaz Yojana etc.
Thousands of representations were received during the ‘yatra’ whereupon they were forwarded to concerned departments for rectifying or resolving the problems. The ‘yatra’ was a mutual success because people were happy to meet their chosen Parliamentarian at their doorstep, to enumerate their problems & Sri Rajagopal gained knowledge from personal observation regarding the living conditions & the requirements of the working & backward communities.
